KONGLE Help

Everything on this page describes what KONGLE does today. Features that are planned but not built yet are listed at the end, in section 11.

1. What is KONGLE?

KONGLE teaches you Korean, starting from the alphabet. It is free.

LevelWhat you learnLessons
Level 0 — Hangul MasterVowels, consonants, building syllables, batchim, sound changes12
Level 1 — Survival KoreanGreetings, numbers and time, ordering food, shopping, getting around, K-drama phrases24

Every Korean word and sentence has audio you can replay as often as you like. One lesson takes about 5 to 8 minutes.

You do not need to know any Korean to start. Level 0 begins with the very first letter.

2. Start without an account

You do not need an account. Open any lesson from the home page and start.

There is one thing to know:

3. Inside a lesson

3.1 The lesson blocks

A lesson is built from five kinds of blocks.

BlockWhat it does
ConceptExplains a rule, and why it works that way
LetterOne Hangul letter: its name, romanization, a memory hint, and example words
ExampleOne Korean sentence, with a note
DialogueA short conversation between two speakers, in a real situation
Say it out loudListen, then repeat aloud

Read the concept first. The lessons explain why before they ask you to remember.

3.2 Playing audio

Wherever there is Korean, there is a ▶ button. Press it to listen. You can repeat as many times as you want — there is no limit.

The voices are speech synthesis, not recordings of a person. We use Microsoft Azure’s Korean neural voices — SunHi, and Hyunsu as the second speaker in dialogues. They are good, but they are not a human being, and we would rather tell you than let you assume otherwise. Recordings by Korean speakers are planned.

If a clip sounds wrong to you, use the report link at the bottom of that lesson. It takes one line, needs no account, and those are the ones we fix first.

3.3 The quiz

Every lesson ends with a quiz. There are four question types.

TypeHow to answer
ChoicePick one answer
ListeningPress ▶, listen, then pick what you heard
MatchingPress one item on the left, then its pair on the right
ComposePress syllable pieces in order to build a word. ⌫ undoes the last one

4. Streak

Your streak counts the days in a row that you studied.

5. XP and badges

XP measures how much you have finished, and how well.

Badges mark the milestones — one for your first lesson, one for each unit you finish, one for each level, two for streaks, and two for your first steps in the community.

BadgeHow to earn it
🌱 First stepFinish your first lesson
📗 Unit badgesFinish every lesson in a unit — one badge per unit
🏆 Hangul masterFinish all of Level 0
🏆 Survival Korean masterFinish all of Level 1
🔥 7-day streakStudy seven days in a row
💎 30-day streakStudy thirty days in a row
💬 First postShare your first post in the community
🤍 First answerAnswer a learner’s question in Q&A

Badges you have not earned yet are shown faded, so you can see what is next. Your learning home page shows the exact total.

XP and badges are calculated from your progress. You do not lose them, and you do not need an account to earn them — but the community badges need one, and without an account everything lives only in that browser (see section 2).

6. Making an account

6.1 What you need

6.2 What changes

6.3 Onboarding — three quick questions

  1. Your language. English is the only one translated so far. The others are marked “coming soon”.
  2. Your daily goal. 5, 10, or 15 minutes. You can change it later in Settings.
  3. Reminders. Study reminders only. The default is off.

Then you choose where to begin:

Nothing is locked. You can open any lesson at any time.

7. Settings

After you log in, open Settings in the top menu.

ItemWhat it does
Your progressLessons finished, current streak, longest streak, last day you studied
NicknameChange it any time (2–30 characters)
Interface languageThe language of the screen. Only English is translated so far
EmailThis identifies your account, so it cannot be changed
LegalTerms of Service and Privacy Policy
Log outLogs you out. Your progress is not deleted
Delete accountSee section 9

8. Deleting something you wrote

You can remove anything you wrote, whenever you want. Open it and press Delete.

WhereWhat you can delete
CommunityYour posts, and your comments on anyone’s post
Q&AYour questions, and your answers to anyone’s question

It disappears from KONGLE straight away. Nobody else can see it after that, and it does not come back.

There is no Edit button. To change something, delete it and write it again. We would rather not have a way to quietly rewrite a post after people have already replied to it.

Pictures are destroyed, not hidden. If your post had a photo, the file itself is deleted from our servers — the address it used to live at stops working for everyone, including anyone who saved the link. If you delete your account, every photo you ever uploaded goes the same way, even the ones you never attached to a post.

One thing stays, and no other member can see it. We keep the text of what you deleted so we can deal with reports about it — if somebody reports a post and the author deletes it a minute later, we still need to see what was reported.

Search engines are outside our reach. While your post was public, a search engine may have made its own copy. Deleting it here does not reach that copy, though those usually fall away as the search engine revisits the page. Article 2 of our Privacy Policy explains this.

9. Deleting your account

At the bottom of Settings, press Delete account.

  1. Press “Delete my account”.
  2. Type DELETE in the box, in capital letters. This step exists so it cannot happen by accident.
  3. Press “Permanently delete”. Your account is deleted immediately.

What is deleted: your account, all your progress, your streak, and the copy stored in the browser you are using.

This cannot be undone. You can sign up again with the same email later, but your old progress will not come back.

One thing does stay, and it is not about you personally. We keep a count so we can see how many people leave and when: the date, roughly how long the account existed, roughly how many lessons were finished, and whether onboarding was done. It is stored as ranges, with no name, no email, and no account number — nothing that points back to you. See Article 5 of our Privacy Policy.

10. Questions

The audio does not play. If the ▶ button is faded and says “Audio coming soon”, that recording is not ready yet. If the button looks normal but you hear nothing, check the volume on your device and make sure the browser tab is not muted.

My progress disappeared. If you studied without an account, it was saved only in that browser. Clearing your browser data, switching devices, or using a private window will hide it. Make an account and your progress will be kept for you from then on.

I want to continue on another device. Log in with the same account. Your progress will download to that device.

I forgot my password. On the login page, press “Forgot your password?” and enter the email you signed up with. We will send you a reset link.

I keep failing the quiz. You pass at 80%. Read the explanation for each wrong answer, then retry. There is no limit, and failed attempts are never saved.

I am under 14. Can I use KONGLE? You cannot make an account. But you can study without one, with no limits — every lesson is open to you.

Is it really free? Yes. Our Terms of Service, Article 10, says that anything we have already given you for free will not be made paid later.

How do I contact you? Write to help@gongreen.co.kr.
